Real situation of social housing use in Hanoi at present

Abstract

The paper analyses the real situation of the use of social housing (through a survey conducted of author in 2018 in three social housing areas: Tay Mo, Nam Tu Liem; Hung Thinh, Ha Dong; and Rice City Linh Dam, Hoang Mai). Through analyzing the current use of social housing (in terms of the quality of housing, access to basic social services and management/operation), it is shown that the quality of social housing only meets part of the need and expectation of the residents. There remain some constraints in the use of basic social services such as education, healthcare etc. The management, operation, safety and social order in social housing quarters have been rated by the residents as good. However, some unexpected incidents have happened. From the real situation of the use of social housing, the author proposes some solutions to further improve the quality of social housing schemes in Hanoi at present.
