ABSTRACT
Experiential education is a hands-on form of learning that begins with a concrete experience. After
solving a problem, learners reflect on the process and are able to apply lessons more broadly to their lives.
Experiential teaching is one of the strategies to attain the defined educational goals in Vietnamese education,
which is shifting from a content-based approach to a competency-based approach. The purpose of this
article is to discuss the fundamental issues of experiential teaching and to design some activities that use
experiential teaching in the Geography 6 of junior high schools in order to increase students’ geographical
scientific cognitive competence.
