KNOWLEDGE OF NURSES ABOUT CARING FOR URINARY CATHETERS AT NATIONAL BURN HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: Assessing status of knowledge of nurses about caring for urinary catheters at National Burn hospital and some related factors. Method: The cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out from December 2018 to May 2019 with the participation of 73 nurses directly working in care and working experience over 1 year at the National Burn Hospital. The subjects were interviewed directly with a set of 30 –questions design questionnaire. Results: The general knowledge of nurses about issues related to care for urinary catheters: Fairly rate accounted for 13,7%; an average of 52,1%, ranked poor type 34,2%, have no good nurses type. There is a difference in knowledge between work experience and qualification with knowledge of caring for patients with catheterization(p <0.05). There is a negative correlation between knowledge point and age with p <0.05. Conclusion: Most nurses with knowledge about care of urinary catheters ranked on averageand poorly. Therefore, it is necessary to support measures to improve the care of catheter care for nurses from nursing managers, to help reduce the incidence of urinary infections and increase efficiency care for patients with catheterization.
