Imbalances in sex ratio at birth in Vietnam: causes and implications

Abstract

     Sex imbalance at birth has emerged in Asia since the 1980s. In Viet Nam, the imbalance of sex ratio at birth dates from the early years of the 21st century and increasingly attracts the attention of the society. In recent years, the imbalance of the sex ratio at birth in our country has been happening at a rapid rate, which has become more and more wides pread and has reached a serious level, which is a top concem of policy makers journailists local and foreign researchers. Sexual imbalance at birth has brought about unpredictable social consequences, even political security, which greatly affected the human resources in particular and the sustainable development of the country in general.
