The role of law in preventing and combating torture in Vietnam

Abstract

Protecting human rights, including preventing and combating torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment contributes to creating conditions for people to develop fully in freedom and peace. It is also the orientation and goal of socio-economic development in many countries. Basically, Vietnamese law has a certain compatibility with the provisions of the Convention Against Torture and international standards on prevention and combat torture in many aspects. The article clarifies the role of our legal provisions on preventing and combating torture, assesses the current situation and suggests some solutions to improve the role of Vietnamese law on this issue.
