Epic inspiration in Chu Tan Kra White Cloud (Chu Tan Kra may trang) epic poem of Lu Mai

Abstract

Modern epic poems were one of the most popular genres in Vietnamese literature during the resistance war against the US invaders. After the war, this genre continued to develop strongly and gain many significant achievements. Lu Mai is a typical young poet in today’s contemporary literature. On her creative journey, Lu Mai tends to choose the epic genre and revolutionary war themes to exploit. Chu Tan Kra White Cloud (Chu Tan Kra may trang) is an excellent epic written by Lu Mai on the soldiers of Regiment 209 in the fight against the US Army to protect the country. The work is full of epic inspiration, an important characteristic of Vietnamese literature in the period 1945–1975. The article clarifies the epic inspiration in Chu Tan Kra White Cloud (Chu Tan Kra may trang) from the aspects of topic, lyrical character image and tone.
