Abstract
This paper aims to present an overview of assessment of cadets’ language
competence at military universities. The issues concerning the washback effects and the
validity of language tests, and the success or failure of this assessment process are
examined in the subsequent section. The paper ends with several suggestions to improve
the process of language testing and assessment of the cadets’ language competence at these
universities
