ANTHROPOLOGICAL APPROACHES TOWARDS RESEARCH ON CULTURE CHANGE UNDER THE IMPACT OF TOURISM

Abstract

The impact of tourism on community cultures is presented via the interaction
between host and guest communities with positive and negative influences. This implies
some important issues for studying traditional culture practices and adapting cultural
changes of host communities. This article is a literature review of some anthropological
approaches for cultural change under the impact of tourism by providing some important
statements: 1) cultural transformation process from traditional values to cultural
resources; 2) the challenges that host communities dealt with when traditional cultures lost
in reconstructing new life; 3) the process of shaping cultural pattern and form in posttourism which expressed cultural adaption strategies of local communites or host
communites. These approaches can contribute to explane cultural changes from the
viewpoint of local communities and the plan to develop tourism based on community
participation.
