Abstract

Tonkin Free School promoted learning the Vietnamese Alphabet script to
abandon the old-fashioned traditional teaching methods, adopt novel ideas, and develop
the contemporary culture and education. However, they still used many Chinese classical
educational materials during the teaching and learning process. It is because the teaching
staff of Tonkin Free School are mostly Confucianism teachers. Besides, some contents and
ideas delivered by these Chinese educational materials to enlighten the people are very
forward-looking and modern. This report provides an overall view of the Chinese
educational materials used in Tonkin Free School and their novel ideas
