Research on the treatment of rice paper processing wastewater on a household scale by Upflow sludge blanket filtration model
Abstract
This paper presents wastewater treatment from the rice paper processing at the household level using the Upflow sludge blanket filtration (USBF) model. The research team set up the experiment at the laboratory level with a capacity of 108 l/day. After 12 days of activation, the activated sludge reached: microbial density 2.8x1011 CFU/ml, sludge volume SV30 380 ml/l, sludge volume index SVI 116.6 ml/g with tested parameters including DO=2.5; pH=7; COD=1,000 mg/l, and testing duration of 16 hours. The treating performance was relatively high with total suspended solids TSS, COD, and BOD5 of 72, 91, and 95%, respectively. The quality of treated wastewater met the standards in Column B, the Vietnamese National Regulation for Industrial Wastewater Quality (QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT).
