A study on the adaptability of locally cultivated varieties of avocado in bearing period in Moc Chau, Son La.

Abstract

Avocado (Persea americana Mills), a perennially valuable fruit, is considered a traditional crop, in the Central Highlands of Vietnam that has been gradually developed in some northern provinces such as Nghe An, Thanh Hoa, Son La, Bac Giang, etc. It is, therefore, necessary to have avocado cultivars carefully screened to be suitably cultivated in the condition of the North of Vietnam. In the 2012 to 2016 period, 5 introduced cultivars of avocado coded TA1, TA5, TA44, TA54, and Booth7 had been evaluated in some areas of Vietnam by the Institute of Regional Research and Development and from which their adaptability in non-bearing duration was already recorded.
This study conducted from 2017 up to now was aimed at continuing to evaluate the above-mentioned cultivars in the bearing period. In Moc Chau condition for screening the good ones to be introduced in the large scale of production in the North of Vietnam. Results conducted from the study showed that among avocado cultivars tested, Booth7 and TA54 were considered to be promising indicated by healthy growth, high yield of good quality.
