Abstract
The Stieng people are a local ethnic group living in Binh Phuoc province. They are divided into two groups: Stieng Bu Lo and Stieng Bu Dec. The Stieng Bu Lo people live in the highlands and adhere to a patriarchal system, whereas the Stieng Bu Dec people live in the lowlands and follow a matrilineal system. This distinction has resulted in varied interpretations of gender norms, as well as duties and places within the family, clan, and community. Based on the fieldwork findings, the article examines the role of Stieng Bu Dec women in production, reproduction, and involvement in community activities, in relation to tradition and transformation.
