Abstract

The court system is crucial for maintaining peace and order, serving as a foundation for the French colonialists' exploitation during colonisation. France's judicial system in Vietnam was frequently modified to align with both colonial aims and Vietnam's social conditions. It incorporated aspects of feudal justice while gradually integrating Western capitalism principles. The article offers an outline of the legal system in Vietnam from the period of the French invasion to 1918, focusing on two forms of justice: European justice and justice for indigenous populations.
