Abstract

The convergence, interaction, spreading, tolerance, openness, and adaptability in its 324 years of development has created the “quintessence” of Sai Gon, and the people of Sai Gon, thus contributing to the formation of the unique cultural features of Sai Gon - Ho Chi Minh City today. The ups and downs in its history have become a measurement for the expression of these features. In the context of proactive and positive international integration, in order to revive the image of the “Pearl of the East” in an even more vibrant fashion, worthy of the stature of a special urban city in terms of socio-economic development, giving due consideration to the “essence” of Sai Gon - Ho Chi Minh City, along with newly arisen factors after 36 years of renovation on the common foundation of a “local, yet popular” cultural space is essential in giving regional and global influence for the city bearing the name of Uncle Ho.
