OCCUPATION-BASED SOCIAL STRATIFICATION AND THE DISTRIBUTION OF ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL RESOURCES IN THE MINOR SOUTHEASTERN REGION OF VIET NAM

Abstract

The paper introduces a social stratification scheme developed from the ILO’s International Classification of Occupations which has been applied by the General Statistics Office of Viet Nam to its surveys since 1999. Using this theoretical scheme for analyzing the data set of the survey conducted in 2020 by the Southern Institute of Social Sciences, the paper describes the quantitative structure of social stratification in the minor Southeastern Region of Viet Nam and the distribution of economic and political resources in that structure. Finally, some questions are raised for further empirical policy research.
