THE HIEP KY CALENDAR IN THE NGUYEN DYNASTY (1802-1883)

Abstract

On the basis of exploiting original historical sources compiled under the Nguyen Dynasty and a number of research achievements of scholars related to the history of astronomy and calendars in Vietnam, the article initially researches on the Perpetual Calendar under the Nguyen Dynasty (1802-1883), thereby, clarifying the problem of classification, compilation, printing and publishing process of the Nguyen emperors.The research results not only contributed to the process of studying the history of Vietnamese astronomy and calendars in the nineteenth century, but also contributed to the reconstruction of the scientific and technical "picture" of the country in this period, which helps researchers to have a more objective and comprehensive view in assessing the role of the last monarchy in Vietnamese history.
