THE PROVINCIAL GOVERNOR DANG VAN THIEM AND THE PROBLEMS OF DYKE CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE, AND OF OVERCOMING NATURAL DISASTERS’ RESULTS

Abstract

Among the Nguyen government officials, the "old man of four dynasties", who served as an official of four dynasties: Gia Long, Minh Mang, Thieu Tri and Tu Duc and was very honest, was the governor Dang Van Thiem. Nearly 40 years working as a government official, he left his imprints on the country's development path. Besides experiencing a lot of success and regret during his career, he was also a governor who dedicated himself to the life of the people. Based on the records in veritable records of Dai Nam of Nguyen Dynasty's Academia Historica, This article portrays his portraits and imprints on the way of constructing, managing dykes as well as his contributions to the policies of raising people.
