IMPACT OF SOCIAL FACTOR ON THE LANGUAGE CHOICE OF IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES IN THE UNITED STATES
Abstract
Dominant language in the United States (English) is a privileged domain for investigating the choice of language change in the immigrant community. However, it still has to acknowledge the important role of languages other than English. Studying specific cases of language use habits in the Vietnamese community, the article concerns issues such as: changes in vocative ways; how to greet each family; the transfer of social information. Especially, social related factors are ones that directly affect the language in a multicultural society like the United States.
