Abstract

Safe drinking water is essential for human life. However, residents of Dang Xa commune notified that there was the shortage of water supply as well as unsafe drinking water quality (i.e. abnormal color, smell) occasionally. Therefore,. This study surveyed 30 households and collected water samples from taps at 11 households in 10 villages and Dang Xa urban area of Dang Xa commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi City. The water samples were analyzed for 13 parameters and the results were compared with the National Technical Regulation on domestic water quality (QCVN02:2009/BYT) and National Technical Regulation on drinking water quality (QCVN01:2009/BYT). The results showed that the clean water supply systemhas not yet met the water demand of residents living in Dang Xa commune recently. Many households in villages of the commune, exept Dang Xa urban area, have to use underground water besides tap water for their daily life. Findings of this study also showed that most of water quality parameters met the national standard for domestic and drinking water use, except permanganate level in collected water samples from Lo, Dong Xuyen, An Da, Hoang Long, Cu Da villages. Two ground water samples at Hoang Long and An Da villages were not safe for domestic use due to the high levels of hardness and manganese (Hoang Long) and iron, suspended solid, color, smell (An Da).
