Abstract

This research uses observed data at the meteorological stations, the climate indicators and reanalysis data with resolution of 0,25 x 0,25 longitude in the period 1980 - 2018 to determine the characteristics of hot weather in Quang Tri area. Besides that, the relationship between the number of hot days and the factors causing hot weather in the area was also assessed. The results show that, there is differentiation among the 3 stations of Dong Ha, Khe Sanh, and Con Co in terms of time and frequency of hot weather activity. The number of hot days tends to increase from 1 to 3 days per decade (except for Khe Sanh station). When there is low equatorial trench, Southwest monsoon (from March to May) and Pacific high pressure (from May to July) increase in intensity, the number of hot days also increases. Conversely, when Western low pressure intensity increases, the number of hot days decreases. Moreover, the number of hot days increase in the years of El Nino and the years after this period but decrease in La Nina years.
