THE AESTHETICS OF THE QUAN HO BAC NINH AO DAI COSTUMES

Abstract

Quan Ho Bac Ninh folk songs have been inscribed on the Representative List of
Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO. The unique feature of Quan
Ho Bac Ninh that anyone can notice is the marvelous blend of melodies and lyrics,
the distinctive traditional costumes, and the cultural behavior of the brothers and
sisters. There are a lot of studies on Quan Ho costumes in terms of the History and
Culture of costumes and fine arts in costumes. However, there is no systematic
research, synthesis, analysis, and evaluation of Quan Ho Ao Dai in terms of the
aesthetic design of the costumes, in the context and atmosphere of Quan Ho, in
Quan ho folk art and culture. This study helps researchers and designers identify
and develop the aesthetic style of Quan Ho Ao Dai that is both general in nature of
Northern women's Ao Dai and brings the own accumulation of the concept of the
life of the Kinh Bac people in North Vietnam. In addition, it also contributes to
preserving and developing the values of the traditional costume culture of Quan Ho
Ao Dai in particular and national costumes in general.
