Abstract

This paper studies the finite element method (FEM) to simulate the
temperature field of K pipe joint welding, with diameter of main
pipe being 219 mm and branch pipe being 102 mm; The thickness
are respectivety 12.7 mm and 8 mm. Temperature variations at a
point (node) in the heat source’s movement are examined. This
welding technology is widely used for steel fabrication not only in
Vietnam but also in the world, referred to as gas metal arc welding
(GMAW) process. The modeling and simulation of the temperature
field when welding K pipe joint was established on the basis of the
model Solid (3D), using ESI’s Sysweld program [1]. This is an
useful simulation tool, as it can solve the complex problems of
thermomechanical and metallurgical in welding, including nonlinear
problems, pseudo steady state, kinetics,...
