Development a formula of Castor Oil Emulsion to guide students to practice liquid heterogeneous dosage forms

Abstract

    Natural-based laxative drugs on the marker nowadays are significantly rare. In Vietnam, castor oil has the effect of treating constipation due to its ability to stimulate intestinal peristalsis. Being an oil, it has an unpleasant odor. This disadvantage can be masked when prepared as an Oil / Water type emulsion. This research was conducted with the aim of developing a formulation for the preparation of castor oil emulsion that can be carried out on a laboratory scale in accordance with the equipments available in the Department of Pharmaceutical industry. The research has examined the castor oil emulsion zone with 3 different emulsifying groups (Tween 80, Tween 80 - Span 80, Tween 20 - Span 80). The most suitable emulsifier is a mixture of Tween 80:Span 80 (90,65:9,35). A stable liquid emulsion zone of castor oil has been established. Research has conducted over 10 formulas that match the criteria of an emulsion used by drinking, using the highest active ingredient ratio and lowest emulsifier.
