THE ROLE OF LOCAL WOMEN'S UNIONS IN RURAL ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION

Abstract

In recent years, the Women's Unions in rural areas have carried out environmental protection. The role of Women's Unions in rural environmental protection in our country is demonstrated through activities of detecting and denouncing violations of environmental law; to increase community participation in the process of monitoring, environmental protection, and activities of educating and propagating environmental protection views to local people. However, in some localities, difficulties are encountered due to a number of subjective and objective reasons regarding local environmental protection, e.g., coordination methods with specialized agencies on environmental protection and with other mass organizations; capacity and interest of local authorities; lack of funding etc. Based on an overview study of data sources and field surveys in some localities, the article outlines in rural environmental protection activities and makes some suggestions on directionand solutions to promote the role of women in rural environmental protection activities in the current period
