AWARENESS AND PARTICIPATION OF THE LOCAL COMMUNITY INBIODIVERSITY CONSERVATION IN VAN LONG WETLAND NATURE RESERVE, NINH BINH PROVINCE

Abstract

Vân Long Wetland Nature Reserve (Vân Long NR) in Ninh Bình province has several types of ecosystems, of which limestone forest ecosystems and wetland ecosystems are the most important. In addition to the well-preserved integrity of this region, it also maintains a high level of biodiversity and is a place with favorable conditions for wild animals to thrive. Community participation plays an important role in the management and protection of protected areas. Lessons from real practices and experiences have showed that, where the local community has good awareness and participation in conservation, biodiversity is well maintained and protected. Through surveys undertaken in the core area of ​​Van Long NR, the local community was found to have good awareness of the role of forests and biodiversity and in several ways the community actively participated in forest protection and biodiversity conservation activities. This article analyzes solutions and provides recommendations to enhance community participation in forest protection and biodiversity in this area.
