EXPLOITATION OF GEOLOGICAL HERITAGE OF KRÔNG NÔ VOLCANIC CAVE SYSTEM IN DAKNONG PROVINCE FOR TOURISM DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The Krông Nô volcanic cave system is a unique part of the UNESCO Global Đak Nông Geo-park with about 50 caves. In many volcanic caves, scientists have recorded and discovered biodiversity and prehistoric archaeological remnants of considerable geo-heritage value. Exploiting the value of the Krông Nô volcanic cave system for tourism development will simultaneously achieve improvement in economic development and preservation of natural and cultural heritages. Based on the analysis of geo-heritage values and some facilities to promote tourism development, the article suggested a number of solutions to expand tourism within the volcanic caves such as planning the cave system and improving tourism resources; diversifying and developing some different types of tourism according to the characteristics of each cave type; completing infrastructure for exploitation of geo-heritage resources; and human resource training for tourism development.
