Abstract

University model incorporates 4 basic components: Administration and policy; Operate; Training, research and extracurricular activities and Community involvement and social responsibility - is “a model of sustainability” of university that is being sought by many countries around the world. In Vietnam, education for sustainable development (ESD) had been launched and promoted during the Decade of ESD under the UNESCO support (2005 – 2014). Despite the initial achievements, study related to sustainable campus remains limited in both theory and practice. On the basis of analyzing the basic characteristics of the sustainable university model and in-depth analysis of 4\12 sustainable campus assessment frameworks such as AISHE (Netherlands, 2009), BIQ-AUA, (Asia-Pacific, 2009) STARS (USA, Canada, 2014) and Green Metric (Indonesia, 2014), we provide the necessary theoretical issues about sustainable university, thereby proposing some suggestions to build a sustainable campus assessment framework in Vietnam appropriate with the regional context
