Paratext as elements of novel decoding – Case study on Le Boujoum by Cung Giũ Nguyên

Abstract

The originality of the writer is not always expressed in the novel content nor in the message he wants to communicate to the reader, but sometimes evidently conveyed in the way he operates the message. This way of expression belongs to the language processing so as to make more effective the expression of thought. Also, the writer makes multiple choices in the world of language, which leads to the appearance of strategies whose characteristic space is at the paratext – a privileged place for the influence of the book on the reader. This paper examines this issue through the novel Le Boujoum by Cung Giu Nguyen.
