In pursuit of sustainable development goals in the current context, Vietnam
places particular emphasis on education, with higher education at its core, as a means to
provide high-quality human resources for national development. Within this framework,
artificial intelligence in smart education and smart universities has attracted considerable
attention. This paper outlines key theoretical issues related to smart universities and the
application of artificial intelligence in higher education. Based on an analysis of the
challenges associated with applying AI in the development of smart university models in
Vietnam, the paper proposes several solutions to enhance the role of AI in building smart
universities in Vietnam today.
