Abstract

In recent years, research on maritime autonomous surface ships or unmanned vessels has received special attention. Studies have also shown that this type of ship will bring certain advantages to the world maritime industry such as: improve safety and reduce maritime accidents, improve the environment and resolve crew shortages, reduce costs related to operating and transporting goods by sea, and reduce gas emissions. Besides, there are challenges for this type of vessel, one of which is legal issues related to maritime autonomous surface ships, the legal status of this type of vessel and regulations. Current Rules for Preventing Collisions of Vessels at Sea, it is possible that in some aspects the provisions of the Rules will have to be amended to apply to this type of vessel in the future. The article addresses issues related to maritime autonomous surface ships. At the same time, analyze and evaluate the compatibility of current regulations and evaluate the impact of this type of ship on the provisions of the Rules for preventing collisions of ships at sea. These analyzes and assessments will be the basis for the direction of amending and supplementing the regulations in this Rule in the future to be suitable for maritime autonomous surface ships.
