DETERMINANTS OF LIVELIHOOD OF THE WORKFORCE: AN OVERVIEW OF THE EMPIRICAL LITERATURE

Abstract

This study was conducted to synthesize the results of empirical literature regarding the determinants of livelihood of the workforce in different sectors in Vietnam. Systematic literature method was employed to find, collect and evaluate the extant literature relating to the research field. The results show a consistent outcome that some factors have a positive impact on the livelihood of the workforce. Those are quality of the labor force, total farmland area, value of production facilities, sources of income, support of local government and social capital. However, it seems that there lacks a consensus among scholars regarding the role of credit, access to credit and experience of the workforce toward livelihood of themselves. From the study’s results, general understanding and research gaps are specified in order to provide direction for building livelihood-related policies as well as further research in the future.
