PROJECT-BASED LEARNING IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING AT VIETNAMESE SECONDARY SCHOOLS, PROBLEMS AND SOLUTIONS

Abstract

This study aimed to explore the difficulties that English teachers at secondary schools in Vietnam had when applying project-based learning in their teaching practice, and to find solutions for those issues. Twenty-eight secondary teachers from twenty-three municipalities all over Vietnam voluntarily joined the action research to share their experiences and problems when doing project-based learning with their students. They then participated in a 5-week course, studied asynchronously on Canvas learning management system, and discussed synchronously on Zoom conferencing app weekly for a better understanding of project-based learning and solutions to their problems. This action research addressed and helped answer the challenging question from many English teachers. The study with its implications directly contributes to the teaching practices in many secondary schools in Vietnam.
