COMMON ERRORS OF CHINESE LANGUAGE STUDENTS IN VERBE CONJUGATION IN DUAL PAST TENSE WITH AUXILIARY “ÊTRE” IN FRENCH AT SCHOOL OF FOREIGN LANGUAGES - THAI NGUYEN UNIVERSITY

Abstract

At School of Foreign Languages – Thai Nguyen University, Chinese language and Chinese teacher education students often make mistakes in conjugating verbs in dual past tense with the auxiliary être in French second language subject. This has had a significant impact on students’ interest in learning as well as learning outcomes. This present article aims to clarify what  common mistakes are made by the learners. Verb conjugation exercises in dual past tense with 12 frequent verbs which go with the auxiliary être were collected and analyzed. The survey was participated by students of cohort 41 and 42, school year 2021-2022. The survey results show that the common mistakes appeared in conjugating the main verb in past participle and matching this participle with the subject. The survey results help the author make some pedagogical suggestions to limit errors for learners as well as improve the quality of teaching and learning French.
