Abstract

Testing and assessment are an important and indispensable step in the process of teaching Chinese orally and also the most effective method to assess the quality of training. The purpose of the assessment test is to check if the learners can understand the content of the lesson during the study period, and after the time they have studied the learners' oral ability. In this paper, based on testing and assessment theories developed by previous researchers, combined with the survey results conducted with 14 lecturers and 110 students of Chinese at elementary level at the Department of Chinese - School of Foreign Languages – Thai Nguyen University, the authors analyzed five categories in the final Chinese speaking exam at elementary level, including format, content, question types, grading criteria and preparation. Based on the survey results obtained as well as the official material entitled “Chinese Textbook” by Duong Ky Chau, a more complete, practical and appropriate assessment framework was proposed.
