Abstract
This paper assessed the awareness of plastic bags and single use plastic items of restaurant owners in Tan Thinh ward, Thai Nguyen city. Beside methods of data collection, analysis and processing, this study surveyed 98 restaurant owners at the chosen area. The research results showed that 100% of restaurant owners identified the harmful effects of plastic bags and single-use plastic to different degrees. However, the understanding of plastic bags and single use plastic (such as origin, different types of plastic, regulations on plastic waste) was low. The percentage of restaurant owners who know about the harmful effects of plastic bags and single use plastics on marine ecosystems, plant growth, and resource depletion is still not high (less than 50%). The results also showed that the attitude and behavior of owners to reduce plastic waste had a low rate. Behavior changes has faced many challenges in terms of cost and customer choice.
