USING MATHEMATISING IN TEACHING GRADE 10 MATHEMATICS AT HIGH SCHOOLS
Abstract
The paper analyzes the nature of the concepts of mathematising and modeling, in which modeling is considered as a phase of the mathematising process. The methods of studying documnents and practical survey through questionnaire were used in this research. Participants of the survey were 553 students and 136 teachers at 13 high schools in Thai Nguyen province. The research has also examined the current situation of using mathematising in teaching mathematics in grade 10, thereby proposed some illustrative examples for the application of phases of the mathematising process in teaching. The research results show that using mathematising in teaching helps to form and develop students’ mathematical competencies, especially mathematical modeling competency, making a contribution to strengthen real-life mathematics at schools.
