RESULTS OF ENDOSCOPIC SURGERY OF TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION OF PROSTATE FOR TREATING BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA IN BACKAN GENERAL HOSPITAL

Abstract

The aim of the study is to evaluate the effects of endoscopic surgery of transurethral resection of prostate for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia in Backan General Hospital. The study was carried out by cross-sectional descriptive studies on 78 patients with diagnosis of benign prostatic hyperplasia who were indicated to transurethral resection prostate. After surgery, the results got as the following: the most improved symptom was dysuria 61.5%; dysuria 32.1%. The proportion of patients with residual urine after urination above 100 ml decreased from 26.9% to 0% after surgery, (p<0.001). The percentage of patients with severe prostate symptom score (IPSS) reduced from 80.8% to 0%. The level of severely affected patients’ life quality lowered from 74.4% to 1.3%. The results after surgery were good 85.9%; average 6.4% and poor 7.7% respectively. Endoscopic surgery of transurethral resection of prostate for treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia is a standard good method which reduces clinical symptoms, improves sub-clinical symptoms and prostate symptom score (IPSS), lowers urine residue after urination and enhances quality of patients’ life after surgery.
