DISTINGUISH OF THE MODAL VERB “Neng, Nenggou, Keneng, Hui” IN MODERN CHINESE AND TEACHING ORIENTATION

Abstract

In the Chinese-type verb system, the model verb is small in number but is widely used. When studying Chinese language, learners may find it easy to master some aspects; for example grammar and semantics of synonyms. However, it is challenging for them to understand the words of usuages. Model verbs “Neng, Nenggou, Keneng, Hui” have nearly the same meaning. This article has analyzed the semantic and grammatical characteristics of this group of verbs; analyzed the students of mistake when using these 4 verbs through a survey. The results obtained can help learners distinguish the differences in the usage of these 4 model verbs. In addition, based on the analysis of the subjective and objective causes, several recommendations for the process of teaching and learning of these model verbs have been made.
