Abstract

This study aims to assess impacts of climate change on local farmers and identify the most potential climate resilient livelihoods in Binh Long, a mountainous commune of Vo Nhai district. Research was carried out during October – November 2019 through personal interviews with 46 representative farmers at the commune and a plenary workshop for focus groups discussions with the participation of the local farmers and relevant stakeholders at district and commune levels. Results showed that the local farmers are highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. A number of climate resilient production practices have been determined, relevant to the local context and capacity of the resource-poor households. These include different models and practices in crop production, animal husbandry and forestry. Results of this study would provide a strong foundation for the local extension networks and government to design focused support programs in adapting to climate change. In addition, creation of  learning and experience sharing opportunities among peer farmers within and outside the studied area would be essential for embracing and upscaling the sustainable production models and practices.
