LIQUID-LIQUID EXTRATION OF ZIRCONIUM (IV) USING HIGH AMINE CTBA/n-HEXAN FROM SUNFURIC ACID MEDIA

Abstract

In this study, we investigated the effect of three fundamental parameters (absorbance wavelength, concentration of H2SO4 and volume ratio of Zr and XO) on the optical property of ZrXO complex.  The results showed that ZrXO complex can obatain the maximum absorbance wavelength of 535 nm at 0.35 M H2SO4 and . The calibration curve for determinination of Zr(IV) at 535 nm is linear in the concentrations range from 10-4 to 5.10-3 M. The optimal conditions for efficiency of Zr(IV), including: with 0.35 M H2SO4 for E = 73.26 %; with Vo/Va = 1/1, E = 73.26 %; contact time and equilibrium time of two phases were 20 minutes, E = 73.26 %; the extraction efficiency of Zr(IV) is the highest when there is 0.25 M Na2SO4. Special, we introducted some characteristics of the extraction system Zr-H2SO4-CTAB, that were: built extraction isotherms of Zr(IV) at concentrations (0.15-1.0 M) of H2SO4; The Mc Cable-Thiele plot indicated with Vo/Va = 1/1 the degrees of the theory extraction of Zr(IV) were 4 and Vo/Va = 2/1 were 2; extracts 96.21 % of Zr(IV) from Zr(IV) 5.10-3 M through 5 times; loading organic of 10-4 M CTAB in n-hexan was determined to be LO = 0.4491 g/L through 5 times of phases contact.
