Abstract

The temperature increases rapidly inside the vehicles when they park under the blazing sun, leading to more fuel consumption for air conditioners and harmful emissions from the internal combustion engine (ICE). Due to the depletion of fossil fuel and the serious greenhouse effect, cooling the vehicle cabin without running the ICE or the electric motor has attracted many researchers and automotive manufacturers. Furthermore, due to global warming, this topic currently becomes hot and requires more attention. Hence, this report aims to review the most exciting studies of the solar-powered air condition system for vehicle cabins. Moreover, the report also reveals some major issues, advantages, and disadvantages of the aforesaid studies. Meanwhile, the information in this report could be a baseline for researching and applying similar solar-powered air cooling system into transportation in Vietnam, a potential country with substantial renewable energy such as wind, biomass, and solar energy.
