Abstract

This paper studies a configuration and control strategy of dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) for mitigating voltage sags in distribution networks. The proposed method has a fast response and effective sag compensation capabilities. Using an open-loop control in the rotating dq-reference frame to compensate each phase voltage separately. Besides, a linear Kalman filter is used for estimating three-phase voltage and it can detect voltage sags faster than the conventional Fourier transform. This enables DVR compensates voltage sag quickly and accurately. Simulation results using Matlab/Simulink indicate that the proposed method can mitigate balance and unbalance voltage sag types and voltage sag with phase angle jump.
