IDENTIFICATION AND SELECTION OF PLUS TREES OF CINNAMOMUM CASSIA WITH HIGH BARK VOLUME AND OIL CONTENT FOR SEEDLING PRODUCTION IN VAN TRAN DISTRICT, YEN BAI PROVINCE

Abstract

The objective of the study is to identify and select plus Cinnamomum casia trees for the propagation of Cinnamon in Van Yen district, Yen Bai province. Sampling plots were designed in the field for measuring and identifying trees with oustanding indocators of growth, bark volume amd oil content. Criteria from the National Technical Regulations 04 TCN 147-2006 and the Regulation on management of forest plant varieties issued in 2005 were applied in order to identify plus trees. As the results, 40 plus Cinnamomum casia trees which superiority in total tree height, diameter were identified. From the pre-screeing 40 plus trees, the oil content was extracted and analyzed. A total 20 plus trees of Cinnamomum casia with superiority in the oil content were selected. The above research results are an important scientific basis for preserving and exploiting outstanding genetic sources in forest plantation, bringing superior economic efficiency to the locality.
