EFFECTS OF APPLICATION OF VIETGAHP IN HOUSEHOLD SWINE PRODUCTION ON SWINE PERFORMANCES

Abstract

The present study aimed to investigate the effects of the application of Vietnam Good Animal Husbandry Practices (VietGAHP) in household swine production on swine peformances. The model of the intervention-control clinical trial was applied in Duc Trong district of Lam Dong province. A total of 60 swine-farming households (5-6 sows/farm) were randomly divided into two groups: VietGAHP and Non-VietGAHP. The 30 households of VietGAHP group were introduced to VietGAHP. The 30 households of Non-VietGAHP group continued with previous practices. Performances of sows and their pigs were assessed for one year. Results showed that the application of VietGAHP helped improve sow reproduction and pig growth. The results would provide the scientific evidence for expansion of the application of VietGAHP in household swine production.
