IMPACT OF CLIMATE CHANGE ON AGRICULTURE AND CLIMATE RESILIENT INITIATIVES IN VAN BAN DISTRICT, LAO CAI PROVINCE
Abstract
This study was conducted in 2018, aimning to evaluate the impact of climate change on agricultural production of local farmers in Van Ban district of Lao Cai province, and define climate resilient initiatives and livelihood models. Methodology included desktop studies, interviews and focus group discussions with representatives of the district sub-department of agriculture and rural development and farmers of three representative communes in Van Ban. Results of this study showed that the district faced significant climate change impacts that directly influenced agricultural production of local farmers. Besides the analyses of existing climate-smart initiatives at the localities, this research recommended five climate resilient livelihood models relevant for the research area and other regions with similar ecological conditions. Future research directions are also discussed in this paper.
