Abstract

The proper assessment of the appropriate level of land use types to organize the rational and effective use of them is a matter of practicality to all localities. The results of land potential assessment lead to strategic solutions and land use orientations to use land effectively and sustainablyfor the future. Dong Hy is a mountainous district located in the north of Thai Nguyen Province with 15 communes and 3 towns. The total natural area of Dong Hy is 45,440.6 ha. The agricultural production land is 15,250.9 ha, accounting for 33.6% of the total natural land area of the district. Dong Hy District has 8 main types of agricultural land use with 48 common land use models: The land use type of 2rice crops, 2 rice crops plus 1 non-rice crop, 1 rice crop, 1 rice crop plus 2 non-rice crops, 1 rice crop plus 1 non-rice crop, vegetables, annual plants and perennials with an area of 8052.5 ha. In particular, the type of land used for the perennial crop of tea accounts for the largest area of 5,291.94 ha, followed by the use of 2-rice crop land with an area of 4,183.89. This proves that tea and rice are the two main crops of the district. The agricultural land of the district has 7 types: non-acidic alluvial soil, alluvial soil, yellow brown soil on clay slabs, yellow brown soil on ancient alluvial soil, pale yellow soil on sand stones, red soil yellow on shale, sloping land.
