A SURVERY ON CANINE VIRAL ENTERITIS CAUSED BY CANINE PARVOVIRUS IN BEN TRE CITY
Abstract
Canine parvovirus (CPV) is a highly contagious viral disease that affects dogs, which commonly causes acute gastrointestinal illness in puppies. The main aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of CPV in faecal samples from 516 dogs with symptoms enteritis, including loss of appetite, fever, vomiting, bloody diarrhea and foul-smelling of feces in Ben Tre city from Octorber in 2018 to February in 2019. The Canine parvovirus antigen rapid test revealed that 172 of the samples (33.33%) were found positive. Dogs from 2 to 3 months old accounted for highest prevalence rate (46.29%). Vaccinated dogs had a lower rate of morbidity than that of unvaccinated ones (6.94% vs 52.33%). Therefore, immunization of puppies with CPV vaccine is necessary in areas detected with CPV.
