Abstract

This study aims to examine the correlation between professional commitment and intention to stay in the profession of nurses in Vietnam. It also evaluates the mediating effect between job excitement and frustration. A cross-sectional quantitative study design using a questionnaire that included demographic data, career commitment, job satisfaction, job frustration, and intention to stay. The study involved 476 nurses with at least nine months of experience in a hospital or medical facility in Vietnam. Research results show that job dissatisfaction reduces the effect of professional commitment on nurses' intention to stay. Female nurses are older, have longer nursing experience, and are more interested in working and intending to stay. Most nurses prefer to stay in their current work unit because of "Job Features", "Learning Opportunities", "Personal Interests" and "Life Stability". This study may suggest further interventions to improve the working environment and promote high quality nursing care and job satisfaction for nurses.
