KEY FACTORS INFLUENCING THE IMPROVEMENT OF TEACHING ENGLISH FOR SPECIFIC PURPOSES (ESP) AT FOREIGN TRADE UNIVERSITY – HCMC CAMPUS

Abstract

In the context of international integration, English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is of growing importance in all training programmes at Foreign Trade University. The knowledge of ESP helps FTU graduates become more confident in using English in their majors. Simultaneously, this is a competitive advantage for FTU-ers in job applications. The authors will focus on finding and analyzing critical factors that contribute to the quality improvement of ESP teaching and learning at FTU, HCMC Campus. These elements consist of teaching and learning materials, English teachers, ESP curriculum/syllabus, measuring and assessing learners’ performance, and learners’ motivation/attitudes towards teaching and learning. Then the writer will make some recommendations on ESP teaching and learning on the basis of the current research findings to enhance English teaching and learning in the educational institution, which keeps the FTU brand stronger and meets customers’ demands better.
