SURVEY MIGRANT WORKERS’ COPING STRATEGIES FOR ECONOMIC DIFFICULTIES DURING THE POST-COVID-19 PANDEMIC IN HO CHI MINH CITY

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a global economic difficulties that have  adversely affected the living and employment conditions of workers. In most industrial zones in Vietnam, unemployment is increasing, changing the income, spending and social relationships of workers. Based on the results of a questionnaire survey and in-depth interviews with workers, the study analyzes coping measures of workers working at foreign direct investment (FDI) companies. The results suggest that workers face difficulties and they have adopted different strategies to cope with financial difficulties and mental problems by maximizing income with different jobs at the same time. In addition, immigrant workers working at FDI enterprises under SHTP have also taken advantage of family networks in many ways to ensure quality of life. The study implies that policy adjustments in improving the income and lives of workers are essential, thereby maintaining the sustainable development of businesses.
